In the early 20th century, sport was imbued with masculine values. It contributed to the construction of an ideal synonymous with masculine perfection, of which athletes' bodies were one of the most evocative markers. But the way in which sportsmen and women were viewed was to change, as demonstrated by this archive montage set against the backdrop of the Ecole de Joinville and the Bataillon de Joinville.
