Juries and Guests

High school Jury

Since its genesis in 2013, WoS has welcomed a High school Jury for the Short Film International Competition. The eleven jurors, coming from six different high schools in the Marne department, try their hands at reviewing films, debating, argumenting, all the while discovering the human experience that being a member of a jury entails. The High School Jury is required to award the High School Prize for Best Short Film.

From the very beginning, the High School Jury has been accompanied by a professional from the audiovisual sector who ensures the debates are balanced and helps the students back up and refine their arguments, thereby enriching the debates and deliberations. This year, two mentors will be alongside the jurors.

Janloup Bernard

Raised in the French Basque Country, Janloup Bernard has a Master’s Degree in Social Anthropology from Université Lumière - Lyon 2. In 2015, he joined the Directing department of the Fémis. Throughout his student years, he directed several short films including La Vie active and Loin du Sud, which were selected at several film festivals. In 2019, his short film project Bahut is selected by WoS Fabrique, the support programme for screenwriting, producing, and directing of fiction films dedicated to the representation of conflicts. After having won the WoS Fabrique Award, he received a grant to help him direct his short film, which will be premiered during this year edition of WoS. He is currently writing his first feature film, Sud, for which he received a screenwriting grant from the CNC.

Hugo Tomes

Hugo Tomes was born in Soissons, Picardy in 1994. After two years as a student in Nantes, he joined the Production department of the Fémis. He has worked as a producer with Janloup Bernard on his films Les Ardents (2018), La Vie active (2019) and Loin du Sud (2019).
