Short film

Lovers, prostitutes, collaborators, activists: between 1943 and 1946, more than 20,000 women were found guilty and punished with head shaving. “Comprenne qui voudra”, the poem written by Paul Eluard in response to the head shavings he witnessed during the Liberation, strikes a chord today as the images filmed by American soldiers and amateur filmmakers are screened. Are these images capable of making us “comprehend” the act of cleansing?
