J'AVAIS UN CAMARADE
WINNING PROJECT FROM WoS FABRIQUE 2019
The first film that was finished thanks to the support of the WoS Fabrique writing residency, J'avais un camarade, directed by Janloup Bernard and produced by Hugo Tomes and Eliott Khayat (Mauvaise Troupe) had its premiere at the 9th edition of the Festival. It has since carried on its path through film festivals, and was selected at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and the Poitiers Film Festival.

Summary: Upon his arrival at a prestigious military school, Woyzeck, the son of an officer, meets Reda, a student from a modest family with whom he is to share his room. As they are initiated into the school through “rites”, the two boys try to find their place in a virile world ruled by strict codes.
Janloup Bernard and Hugo Tomes

The director: Janloup Bernard
From the French Basque Country, Janloup Bernard got a Master’s Degree in Social Anthropology. In 2015, he joined the Directing department at La Fémis. In 2019, his short film project J’avais un camarade was selected by WoS Fabrique of which he was a laureate. He is currently writing his first feature film, Sud, for which he received a screenwriting grant from the CNC.
The producer: Hugo Tomes
Hugo Tomes was born in Soissons in 1994. After studying in Nantes, he joined the Production department at La Fémis. After graduating in 2019, he worked for several production companies before founding Mauvaise Troupe in 2021 with Eliott Khayat and Janloup Bernard. Together, they directed and produced J’avais un camarade, the French award-winning film at the first WoS Fabrique.
