Beyond the issue of the running times of some of these films (in particular Still Playing, a superb documentary about a West Bank-based video game developer, and La Ligne de vie, a fiction film by Hugo Becker set during the First World War), this screening reflects the evolution of War on Screen since its creation. Whilst the competition is primarily aimed at emerging artists, former guests and established filmmakers have chosen to submit their latest works to us. Given that short films are becoming increasingly difficult to see outside of festivals, we felt it was important to be able to screen the latest visceral documentary by Sergei Loznitsa, our guest of honour for the 2025 edition (Champ de mars). The same applies to Antonin Peretjatko, who was our guest in 2024 for his Voyage au bord de la guerre, an exploration of Ukraine shot on 16mm film. Using a similar approach, he continues his artistic vision with the fascinating Quelque part dans un pays libre (Somewhere in a Free Country).
