In August 1940, former Popular Front minister Jean Zay was arrested and imprisoned for four years for his political views. Drawing on his prison writings and previously unseen family archives, the film reconstructs his inner voice — a cell that becomes a space for introspection, ending with his assassination by the Vichy militia in June 1944.
