Born and raised in Clermont-Ferrand, Laurent Véray is a film historian with doctorates in contemporary history and film studies, and a professor at Université Sorbonne Nouvelle. A specialist in early cinema and the interwar period, he has published around fifteen books, including La Grande Guerre au cinéma. He chaired the French association for film history research and directed the Compiègne film festival from 2008 to 2018. For television, he made L'Héroïque cinématographe (2003) and La Cicatrice, une famille dans la Grande Guerre (2014). Haute solitude is his latest documentary.
