Director and filmmaker, Kirill Serebrennikov is one of the leading figures of the contemporary scene in Russia. He is known for staging works by Gorky, Ovid, Shakespeare and Pushkin, and operas for the Bolshoi and in Europe.
His radical politics and pro-democratic and pro-LGBT stance resulted, in 2020, with his house arrest and a suspended prison sentence. Over the past few years, Kirill Serebrennikov was at Cannes with The Student (2016), Leto (2018) and Petrov’s Flu (2021), and Avignon with Les Idiots (2015), Les Âmes mortes (2016) and Outside (2019).
