DISCUSSIONS AND LECTURES

panel discussion

"the algerian war on screen"

French films are frequently criticised for being less willing and able to tackle the task of representing French history than their Anglo-Saxon counterparts (American films about the Vietnam War often being cited). The reality is that the Algerian War has nurtured a both rich and varied collection of films, illustrating the points of view of a wide range of filmmakers. This panel discussion goes back over these films, their history, their wealth and their diversity.

PANEL DISCUSSION

« FLEEING THE WAR, UN ACT? »

People have always fled wars.
In fear, by conviction, by forced choice, to “save their skin” or their loved ones…
There are as many reasons as human situations, as highlighted by La Permanence in Alice Diop’s documentary.
The filmmakers taking part in this discussion on “Fleeing the War, un act?” have all expressed a personal vision of the moment in which people decide to flee.
What are the subjective consequences of these choices, of each person’s intimate decision?
