COURTS EN CHAMPAGNE

THE TURBO FILM FESTIVAL

The Turbo Film festival (6th edition) is a unique event taking place in Reims: it aims to promote short-length filmmaking in the Grand East region, in France and beyond, and to discover future talent amongst young filmmakers.

The participants were invited to make a short film less than five minutes long in 24 hours, between 11th March 2017 (09:00) and 12th March 2017 (09:00). To spice things up and ensure that the participants respected the time limit, the rules were revealed to them just 15 minutes before the 24 hours began.

The festival includes a “non-student” category with a view to encouraging participation from both former students and younger filmmakers (sixth-formers, apprentices…).

The selected films will be screened from 3rd to 6th May 2017 in Reims at Cinémas Opéra, the Médiathèque J. Falala, the CROUS Cultural Centre (Red Cross Campus) and at the Teilhard de Chardin University Residency. A professional jury as well as an international student jury will award 10 prizes during the closing ceremony on Saturday 6th May – 7pm to be held in the great hall of the Comédie de Reims theatre, open to the public for the first time. The winning films will then be screened throughout the region.

Masterclasses given by professionals, experts in their fields, will be on offer during the festival, with the aim to allow the participants and the public an opportunity to improve and develop their knowledge of audio-visual and film production.

FILMING WAR

An homage to past victims

To film war is a complex experience for secondary school students. With the knowledge acquired over the past year, six short films present their sensitive vision, often paying homage to the victims of past dramas. Coached by their teachers prior to this project, they made their films while dealing with the surprises, oversights, contradictions and other inconvenient incidents that professionals are all too familiar with.

The goal of this educational project was to put the students at the heart of a unique artistic production.

The geographical proximity of World War I combats is the subject of Le médaillon while some of the aspects of World War II pay homage to its unknown heroes in Justin, Lettre à Marianne and La traque. The place of women in the chaos of conflict is highlighted in Souffrances. Finally, L’assaut looks at the delicate subject of terrorism.
