It is the summer of 1914, and the outbreak of World War I. Convinced of their strength, both the French and the Germans believe they can crush their enemy in a few months. But several weeks later, the conflict lingers on and doubt sets in. The military and governments must convince their people that their sacrifice is not in vain. To do so, what better means than the image, the moving image, the cinema? The French and German armies send cameramen to the battlefields to film the fighting. Who were these men and how were they integrated into the various army corps which already specialised in filming?
