6TH INTERNATIONAL WAR ON SCREEN FILM FESTIVAL

2 - 7 OCTOBER 2018

In the space of only five years, the War On Screen festival has firmly established itself within the cultural landscape of the Grand Est region, acknowledged by both French and international cinema professionals. Unique in Europe, this is an opportunity to take another look at the world’s conflicts, showing how culture can help to heal wounds through the singular perspective of filmmakers.

Korea, the Ethiopian war, London, Paris, Rome and Berlin: the cities and subjects focused on by this year’s festival, and bringing to the attention of its audience a variety of cinema productions and points of view.
I would like to pay tribute to the commitment and openness of this festival, which includes special screenings, workshops, master classes and exhibitions in association with its two competitions.

Much of the festival’s innovation stems from its ability to support initiatives and strengthen the presence of cinema in the regions, from writing and production to educational programmes.

The War On Screen festival has conquered the heart of its audience. Particularly committed to young people and therefore to the future, the festival’s initiatives are exemplary in the field of education and
the teaching of critical faculties. It gives young people the chance to participate in filmmaking workshops led by professionals. As do all great festivals, it invites school children and students to judge the selection as part of the juries. And it takes into account the new cultural practices of their generation.

The Ministry of Culture is proud to have supported this event from its inception – via the National Centre of Cinematography and the Moving Image (CNC) and the Grand Est Regional Cultural Affairs Directorate. With this support, the ministry stands alongside the local public partners, to whose work and involvement I also pay tribute.

Here’s wishing you all a wonderful festival 2018!
